T-Mobile and Verizon are in neck and neck competition in the United Sates for years in terms of mobile network speeds as well as performance, reveals OpenSignal’s crowdsourced monitoring.
The latest report also finds 4G speeds continue to rise and in several cities it is more than national average, which is about 20 Mbps.
Detroit has the fastest 4G speeds and both the companies offer LTE download speeds of over 25 Mbps. Chicago and Minneapolis are two other states where at least one operator offers at least such speeds.
OpenSignal studied 36 US cities between October and December based on about 4.6 billion crowdsourced datapoints measured through mobile app. The report reveals at least 25 states offer more than 20 Mbps.
The report reads, “Verizon has clearly taken exception to T-Mobile’s recent attempts to steal the network spotlight… Verizon is fighting back with 4G upgrades of its own, and as our latest results in the U.S. show it’s doing so quite effectively. The two are again tied in network speeds in our tests, but T-Mobile continues to chip away at Verizon’s vaunted lead in 4G availability.”
All the four top carriers is said to have been realized significant improvements in their 4G availability scores and growing number of cities are getting the fastest speeds.
Verizon lately started upgrading its networks with the 4G LTE-Advanced technology.
