At least four people have died including a 15-year-old girl and 49 others have been injured in a spree of gun violence across Chicago over the Memorial Day long weekend.
Chicago Police Department has not yet confirmed the official numbers but different news outlets are revealing the toll differently.
Most of the injuries have taken place on the West Side of the city, near to the Harrison District.
In 2015 a dozen people were killed and 44 others were injured over the same weekende.
This year, on Saturday alone 25 people were sot. The 15-year-old girl named Veronica Lopez too was shot on Saturday while she was riding in a Jeep.
Later, on the same day, a 27-year-olld Garvin Whitmore was shot in head while he was sitting in a car with his wife and their two children.
In another incident a 25-year-old Mark Lindsey was fatally shot too while sitting in a car.
A 25-year-old Damien Cionzynski was shot inside a BP gas station in his head after an altercation.
First Deputy Police Supt. John Escalante said, “We’re asking the men and women of the Chicago Police Department to step up and do their best, and so we’re going to be out here with them.”
